Her pace is slow. Each step is deliberate and with every one there is a stop to feel the table wet with rain, or step across a puddle with painstaking care, or take a sip of her drink. For her the walk from the coffee shop to the car is not any less important than the destination. For this three year old now is the destination.
The perspective of children is invaluable. They care deeply just as much about the small and ordinary as they do about the great. In fact, they don’t even see the distinction between the two.
Maybe this is why theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Because they see wonder in everything. Because their perspective is whole. Because there is nothing missing when they look at the world.
It’s a slow kind of peace. We don’t get as much done or reach our goals as efficiently. But maybe our lists aren’t as important as we think.
